Personal and business correspondence, account book, deeds, promissory notes, and other papers, of Dixon and of the Lyon family of Edgecombe Co., N.C. The Civil War letters, belonging to the Lyon family, concern soldiers' pay and regimental histories; postwar letters refer to the scarcity of money and to hard times in the South. Dixon's papers pertain to the purchase of slaves, teaching activities, and the Disciples of Christ and the Free Will Baptist Church at Hookerton, N.C. The account book contains records relating to the guardianship of minors from 1848-1855. The collection also includes Dixon's will and an inventory of his personal property.
